How to actually ride a bus in Pohang
- Get a transit card. Buy a T-money or Cashbee card at any convenience store (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven) for a few thousand won and load cash on it. The same card works in Seoul, Busan, everywhere.
- Tap on when you board, tap off when you get off. Tapping off is what keeps your transfer free.
- A ride is roughly ₩1,500 with a card. Cash works but costs more and you need exact change.
- Check the sign on the front of the bus. The same number runs both directions — the destination on the front tells you which way it is going.
- Press the red stop button before your stop. The driver will not stop otherwise.
- Buses stop running early. Most city routes finish around 22:00–23:00. After that, taxis only.
Things I know from living here
Three facts that will save you time
- Pohang Station to POSTECH: there is no direct bus. None. If you just came off the KTX with a suitcase, take a taxi — about 20 minutes, allow 25 because the road backs up behind trucks going into the steelworks. Say “Pos-tek” (포스텍) to the driver. Meters are standard, no negotiating, no tipping.
- If you are staying near POSTECH, learn the number 207. It runs every 12–14 minutes on weekdays and connects the campus to the rest of the city. Route 306 also stops there but only every 22–26 minutes.
- Google Maps gives no public-transport directions in Korea. It is not broken and you are not doing it wrong — the data is not available to Google here. For live arrival times use Naver Map or KakaoMap. This page tells you which bus; those apps tell you when.
